CMU Introduces the MSCF Quantitative Assessment: An Alternative to the GRE/GMAT
Carnegie Mellon University has introduced a new assessment for applicants to its Master of Science in Computational Finance (MSCF) program.
Candidates can take the MSCF Quantitative Assessment or submit official GRE/GMAT scores. One is required, and applicants may submit both.
The assessment covers Calculus, Linear Algebra, Probability and Statistics, and Computer Science.
What to Expect
Format: 20 multiple-choice questions, completed online.
Duration: One hour.
Focus: Foundational quantitative concepts.
Background: No specialized finance knowledge is required.
Further details: Scheduling, logistics, and any preparation resources will be shared during the application process.
The assessment is free, with two time slots planned per application round.
This gives applicants another way to demonstrate their quantitative readiness. The assessment is considered alongside academic performance, professional experience, recommendations, essays, and other application materials as part of CMU’s holistic admissions review.
